Bangladesh’s agricultural sector, contributing 12% to GDP and employing 40% of the population, faces mounting challenges from climate change, declining arable land, and resource constraints. Drone-assisted precision agriculture presents a transformative solution for enhancing productivity and sustainability. This literature-based study examines the adoption status, technological applications, challenges, and prospects of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Bangladesh’s agricultural landscape. Through a comprehensive analysis of secondary data from 2018-2024, this research explores drone applications in crop monitoring, precision spraying, soil analysis, and disaster management. Key findings indicate that institutional initiatives, including the Department of Agricultural Extension’s partnership with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank’s $578 million Climate-Smart Agriculture Investment Plan, have enabled 127,500 farmers to adopt smart technologies, achieving yield improvements of 15-60%. However, significant barriers persist, including high acquisition costs (Tk 300,000-500,000), regulatory complexities, limited technical expertise, and infrastructural gaps. The study reveals promising prospects through cooperative ownership models, policy development, and capacity-building programs, positioning Bangladesh as a potential leader in climate-resilient, technology-enabled agriculture among developing nations. |
